Moomin mugs hold a special place in the hearts of collectors worldwide. Among these, the limited-edition Moomin mugs stand out for their rarity and the allure they hold for collectors. In this post, we delve into ten truly limited-edition Moomin mugs, some of which have known production numbers, while others were released in limited supply with the exact quantities shrouded in mystery.
Let's dive into each one of them one by one.
The Fazer mug was released as a special edition in 2004, available exclusively at the oldest Fazer CafĂŠ in Helsinki. Only 400 pieces were produced, with 20 given directly to Fazer employees.

The Moomintroll Daydreaming mug was released in 2005 in collaboration with Arabia Museumâs exhibition. Only 2005 pieces were produced, and itâs sold in a box.
On the mug, you see Moomintroll lying with open eyes in the woods. The mug features black and white colors. The mugs are not numbered, but the bottom has the Arabia stamp and the text: âMuumipeikko unelmoi ⢠Mumintrollet DagdrĂśmmer ⢠Moomintroll Daydreaming ⢠2005â.
The Dive mug was released in the summer of 2006, marking the first seasonal summer mug. It depicts Moomintroll in bathing shorts, diving into the water.
A small batch of the Dive mug was made already back in 2004 at the Arabia exhibition, showcasing light-colored seashells in the background. However, this edition was abandoned before actual production began in 2006. A small batch of the seashell edition was given to Arabia factory workers, making them very rare and valuable.
The Stockmann mug was released in 2012 to celebrate the department store's 150th anniversary. Only 25,000 pieces were sold, exclusively at Stockmann in Helsinki.
The mug features numerous Moomin characters on a white background. The mugs are not numbered.
The Moomin's Day mug was released on August 9th, 2018, the first Moomin's Day mug ever produced.
The mug came in a box and was produced in limited quantity until the supply ran out. It depicts Moomintroll and Moominmamma sitting on a rock, watching the sunset on a red and blue background. The mugs are not numbered.
The Moomin's Day 2021 mug was released on August 9th, 2021, the second Moomin's Day mug ever produced.
Like the 2018 edition, the exact production number is unknown. It was produced in limited supply and sold on August 9th, 2021, until it sold out.
The Moomin's Day mug 2023, also called Sea Breeze, was released on August 9th, 2023, to celebrate Moomin's Day and the 150th anniversary of Arabia.
The Sea Breeze mug came in two editions: a normal and a platinum version. Only the platinum versions were numbered. You can read all about the two editions here. The normal edition of the Sea Breeze mug was not numbered.
The Journey mug 2023, also known as the Finnair mug, was released on October 9th, 2023, to celebrate Finnairâs anniversary. The mug was almost only sold in selected airport shops in the Nordics.
The production number of the Journey mug is unknown, but it was sold out worldwide after only a couple of days. The mug portrays a number of Moomin characters on a journey. The mug has a blue background, with a large moon in the background.
The Moomin's Day 2024 mug was released on August 9th, 2024, the fourth Moomin's Day mug ever produced.
The production number of the Moomin's Day 2024 mug is unknown. On the mug you see Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden playing by the river. The mug has a green background.
The Home mug is a limited edition collectible produced in 8,000 pieces. Each mug is hand-painted and comes with a unique serial number along with the Moomin 80 anniversary stamp.
Each Home mug features a hand-painted illustration based on the original Moomin story of finding Moominhouse. The design includes the Moomin 80 stamp and the artisan's initials, ensuring that no two mugs are identical. You can read more about the Home mug here.
